Go on, Become a Lemon Orchard Caretaker for a while

Live and love all things lemons in a stunning seaside valley, just a 5 minute walk to private beaches.

Become part of the landscape while learning fruit tree and soil care, marmalade making, trying diy salt rubs and preserves, through to to sweet lemon-trade hook ups (swap lemon for pide, coffee, and croissant+ with the best cafe’s in town).

When life give you lemons, make lemonade.

When life gives you a lemon orchard, stay a while and make yourself a lemon orchard caretaker

A Day in the life of a lemon orchard caretaker

  • 7am. The Day is Yours.

Wake up with the light and be enveloped by bird song, while collecting your first 10kg bag of lemons. It won’t take long once you have your eye in and sure beats the morning commute. Your feet might get wet, unless you wear boots.

  • 8am emails... if you must?

Kick back over coffee at home and bask in the glory of this incredible landscape (and your virtuous morning). Login to check emails, fire off instructions to your minions, or simply pretend you no long exist at work. They won’t mind, will they?

  • Sometime after... Because 2nd breakfast also works

Watch your first instructional video - “how to turn lemons into marmalade” (or if you aren’t quite up for it yet, simply trade lemons for fresh pide and coffee at Mr Hope). We promise you, there is not a finer pide within 1000km… at least !

  • (lunchtime) swim year round, wimhoff style

Go for a swim at the bluepool while you contemplate using gin, vanilla bean, vietnemese mint or seaweed to trick up your first marmalade batch. Come home with baked goods for days and get stuck in - the making and the eating !

  • 3pm strolls

Beat the afternoon low by taking a turn about the wetlands and debate whether this is a south african weed or misunderstood native… by now you might be salivating at the salt rub recipe, candied lemon or dried lemon slices for cocktail trick ups

  • Night time bliss

After an afternoon experimenting in the kitchen, you might be ready for dinner on the back deck while the sun sets (photo here is an unfiltered, early summer sunset, would you believe?). Maybe swim (nude at the private beach down the road). Then sleep again - for realz this time until morning, under the big Bermagui sky

Holidays Work Life

Why are they three different things anyway?

  • Stay for up to 30 days (minimum 20) with up to 6 guests

  • $6,500 (30days) all inclusive with a clean at 2 weeks - just $216/day, or $36/day/pp

  • Get personalised instructional video’s and write ups on all things lemons - from how to care for the trees, to making marmalade and salt rubs, through to the history of citrus and how to cook with it.

  • Available from May-Nov (when lemons are most abundant and in need of love) - keep all you grow and harvest - up to 100kg/month!

  • Sweet hook ups for lemon trades with local legends from Mr Hope, Boneless Cafe, and Honour Bread.

  • Insert the email and zoom thing somewhere in your schedule if you must, and soon enough you forget that work, holidays, and living have to be 3 different things.

“Wow. So very, very lovely! This place totally lived up to expectations. It is very comfortable, very attractive, in a beautiful setting and has lots of thoughtful little touches and extras, such as the classy jigsaw puzzles, the interesting selection of books and the completely unexpected Lapham Quarterly magazines.”

This is our second time staying here and we absolutely loved it again!
Can’t wait to come back. This time the kids befriended a local peacock owned by one of the neighbours - so that was an extra bonus!

Chris, January 2023

This place was all we hoped for and more for our young family. The evenings with the doors open breeze blowing through and music playing were so peaceful. The seclusion and views of nature with birds, kangaroos and to our amazement a peacock were something our kids will never forget.

House is beautifully appointed. Everything you could want and need is thought of. The outdoors space is so relaxing, and made indoor/outdoor living so easy…especially perfect with two teenagers. We would love to come back for a longer stay. Bermagui itself is one of Australia’s gems. We were so lucky to have such a beautiful home base to explore.

Lovely peaceful location, walking distance to nice beaches and a short drive to town. We loved the privacy and seclusion, the large well equipped kitchen and modern bathroom with large shower head. Very extensive library on the book shelf and some jigsaw puzzles and games to amuse us on the cooler, rainy days. It was lovely sitting out on the deck chairs watching the kangaroos grazing.

Fantastic and homely stay close to the beach and short drive to town. Beautifully styled and comfortable house with relaxing views across an orchard to lake and wetlands. We spent hours lazing on the deck, picking fresh lemons, watching our dog live out her farm dog dreams. Anthony was a very responsive host and even helped us find charging options for our Tesla on our trip down. Thank you - we loved every minute!
